*Perimeter fences mark out of bounds. If relief, inbounds, must be taken from the fence, take two club lengths, no closer to the pin under penalty of one stroke. On Hole #4 drop may be nearer to the pin, but still carries one stroke penalty.
*Lost ball - for pace of play consideration, drop where you believe ball would be. 2 stroke penalty (stroke and distance.) - Any time you believe your ball may be lost, play a provisional to save time. (The USGA rule requires the player to return to the place where the ball was struck (distance) and replay with one stroke penalty, but we don't have time for that at Clearview.)
*Wrong ball - for pace of play - don't go back, continue the hole with the wrong ball. 2 stroke penalty. Rightful owner will place another ball where hers was and continue with that. It is immaterial what the ownership or origin of the wrong ball is. Players are responsible for identifying a ball before playing it.
*Unraked bunkers - If bunkers are not raked and ball lies in a footprint or other hole or depression, lift ball, smooth sand with your foot, and replace ball, no penalty.
*Hole #9 - the staked area at the approach to the green is ground under repair. Locate nearest point of relief, and measure one club length and drop, no penalty. Should you believe it dangerous to enter the staked area and wish to abandon the ball, you may do so, without penalty, drop another ball at approximate point of entry.
The reason for this is to avoid potential injury in the uneven terrain, and possible delays in looking for ball in high grass.
Hardpan - in dry season, Clearview has some large areas of hardpan. Take relief, no penalty, by picking up ball and placing it on nearest grass, whether on fairway or in rough. Reasoning is that this is an abnormal condition and members should avoid potential injury. It is in the player's discretion as to whether or not to take relief.
Trees, Roots, Rocks, Mulch - these are part of the course, no relief without penalty.
